Workout Wednesday

Time to check in again with how your exercise is going. Have you been meeting your exercise goals?

After exercising you are supposed to have a small snack composed of protein, a small amount of fat and a larger amount of carbohydrates. If you eat it in the 30 minutes after you exercise it can help your muscles recover better from the work that you just put them through. So what is your favorite "recovery" snack?

  1. So far this week has been fairly good. I exercised on both Monday and Tuesday, but only for 30 minutes. I'd like to try to increase that to 45 minutes, but sometimes by the end of 30 I'm pretty pooped!

I usually have a yogurt drink or a handful of nuts as my recovery snack or sometimes an apple. I'd really like to get some good ideas for other snacks though :)

  2. One of the best recovery foods that I have read about and seem to be agreed upon from the experts is a Banana. My favorite energy bar is still the original chocolate PowerBar or the vanilla variety is pretty good too. I think the important thing is to eat a little of something regardless of how well rounded it is with the nutrients you may need.

  3. After speaking with my OB Dr. last Friday, she completely cleared me for a triumphant return to ZUMBA! I was so excited that I went running (waddling) in Monday evening for dancing my booty off. It was a great work out. I did have to take a potty break (who'd have thought) and another break to catch my breath, other than that...it was great. I can't wait to get back in there tonight and tomorrow night. After working out, I was STARVING! So thank you for posting about a recovery snack. I need to plan better tonight. Good luck everyone with your workout goals! I know I felt SOOO much better after my workout and I know you will too. Keep up the good work(outs).

  4. My favorite snack is the Ca-Ca Cookies. They are a combination of ground nuts, fruit, flax seed..In fact I will post the recipe:)

My primary workout goal was to walk 30 min each day...or whatever it takes to give me a full 10,000 steps. Since I tore my rotator cuff (I think that's what it is)I have not made my goals, but am trying to get back to that goal by increasing my steps by 500 each week. I have gotten as low as 3500 and am back up to 5500. Progress not perfection.

  5. Okay, I'm commenting to keep myself accountable! Argh, I didn't do anything this week, aside from a short walk in the park (not very aerobic either). I'll keep going though!
